The Pittsburgh Zoo was founded in 1989 with the money of a local millionaire, who allocated a huge amount of money for the construction of the zoo - 125 thousand dollars at that time.
Until today, the Pittsburgh Zoo is the only one in the state. In addition to this, the zoo has a number of other achievements.
In 1949, it opened the first educational and entertaining park for children in the country. The process of learning about different animals was accompanied by entertaining games and sports competitions on a specially designated site. Exactly 20 years later, in 1969, the zoo opened the first aquarium in the state that to this day keeps the second place by area and number of inhabitants in the United States.
In 1994 a new zoo building was added to the main administrative building with classrooms for children, and a conference room for discussions among zoologists. There are seven zones in total in the zoo, each of which, except for the children's zone, is titled by the habitat of the animals in it. The children's zone is home to domestic and domesticated birds, and animals whose habitat is the temperate latitudes of the state. The "African Savannah" have introduced rhinoceroses, giraffes, and wild cats. "Tropical forest" is represented by primates imported from the jungles of South America, as well as lemurs from Madagascar. The "Asian Forest" is represented by Bengal tigers. The Aquarium is home to several thousand species of fish, as well as sea lions and seals, who regularly participate in the "Water's Edge" show. Also called the newest area of the zoo, which is an extension of the Aquarium. A staff of several dozen trainers teaches seals, seals, and lions a variety of tricks.
